Carter Statement on Progress of Savannah Harbor Deepening Project

Press Release

Date: Oct. 8, 2014
Location: Atlanta, GA

Sen. Jason Carter issued the following statement following the signing of the agreement to begin the Savannah Harbor deepening project.

"I am pleased that after 20 years, the Savannah Harbor deepening can finally move forward. All Georgians share in this good news.

"We're in this position because our Congressional delegation was able to work across party lines to deliver for Georgia. We need to continue to hold the federal government to its commitment to our state, and keep working together to see this project through to completion."

Carter authored a Savannah Morning News op-ed in March laying out his proposal to advance the project. He wrote, "Put simply, this project is too important to allow one Washington setback to derail it. But in order to get back on track, our leaders must set partisan politics aside … No matter how angry we are, now is the time to bring people together in a constructive way to solve this crucial problem."
